Interns and Volunteer Programme

OBJECTIVES OF THE IAV PROGRAMME
The Interns and Volunteers initiative is designed to build capacity among stakeholders of Iwokrama through the opening of opportunities for promising individuals to learn and contribute to areas relating to sustainable development, through achievement of specific projects required by Iwokrama to fulfil its mandate. The initiative has the following general objectives:

  • To provide opportunities for Guyanese and other nationals to gain practical experience in an interdisciplinary and international working environment while contributing towards the outputs of the Centre.
  • To promote a greater understanding of the problems, challenges and opportunities relating to the conservation and development of tropical rain forests and to provide opportunities for learning how Iwokrama is involved in addressing these.
  • To strengthen linkages with stakeholders and develop ambassadors of good will.
  • To achieve certain specific outputs required by the Iwokrama Centre which would have otherwise required a salaried person.

Assignments under the Iwokrama Interns and Volunteers Programme are not intended to lead to a staff position within the Iwokrama Centre.
