Iwokrama Forest Field Station
In addition to its functions as a Forest research and operations hub, the Field Station is the primary visitor resource. It is located near the village of Fairview and the Kurupukari crossing of the Georgetown-Lethem Road, about 331 km by road from the capital city of Georgetown.

On the west bank of the Essequibo River and surrounded by dense rain forest, the Field Station is a perfect location to enjoy the views and sounds of this wild frontier. A multitude of birds live in the area and can be seen and heard especially in early morning and late afternoon. Red Howler Monkeys and other wildlife are also often seen or heard as they bustle around at the jungle's edge. By night the reflection of the moon on the Essequibo River creates a mystical atmosphere, and the stars must be seen to be believed!
The Fred Allicock Training Centre (aka Round House) is the heart of the Field Station. This 9,000 sq. ft., octagonal building has a small shop, two scientific labs, a computer lab, modest reference library, air-conditioned classroom/meeting room, and administrative offices. The kitchen and open-air dining/social hall are on the upper level.

Other facilities at the Field Station include guest cabins and other accommodations, workshops, staff dormitories, supply buildings, and a weather station.
The Station has a full time staff of about 30 people, including drivers, boatmen, forest rangers and guides, a cook, a medic and the Field Station Administrative Officer.
Communications with Ranger Stations, the administrative offices in Georgetown, and the outside world are by radio, telephone and email.
