____________________________________________

Over the past three years the North Rupununi Junior Wildlife Development Council (NRJWDC) has produced and hosted an annual Wildlife Festival in the Annai District of region 9 in the North Rupununi.

These Festivals are not possible without the many wonderful supporters that have donated money, time and or prizes.

What do we want to achieve through the Festival?

  • To raise awareness about conservation and natural resource use issues across Guyana and spread the conservation message to the rest of the world.
  • To help youth understand, express and enjoy the benefits of conservation.

The festival also provides an opportunity for members to exchange ideas, talk about club activities, and to celebrate Guyana's rich wildlife and their own culture. This interchange of ideas and information contributes to further development of the clubs, and serves as a binding tool for improving communication, knowledge and development of the clubs.

Activities

The festival agenda is determined by the Wildlife Clubs themselves, and showcases costumes, banners, poetry, art, music, skits (in Makushi) and dances. Generally all these activities are about wild animals, the forest, and the savannah.  There are also discussions on social issues. All these activities will help the young minds develop and to become involved in the process of information sharing and decision making in both natural resource uses and daily life.
